Nebraska Vehicle Accident Statistics -- 2007
- The 2007 death rate for vehicle accidents in Nebraska was 1.3 persons killed per 100 million miles, continuing a downward trend in fatal crashes.
- The total number of fatal crashes was 230.
- Douglas County, with 39 traffic fatalities, and Lancaster County, with 24 fatalities, reported the highest numbers of traffic-related deaths. Douglas and Lancaster Counties are also the most densely populated areas of the state.
- Of over 35,000 vehicle crashes which occurred in 2007, most – almost 23,000 – involved property damage only.
- The economic loss due to highway crashes was $2,362,621,000.
- Just under 19,000 injuries due to vehicle accidents occurred in 2007.
- In 2007, a crash occurred in Nebraska an average of every 15 minutes. Fifty-two persons were injured each day.
- One person was killed every 34 hours.
- Of all traffic fatalities reported in 2007, only 32% were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
- Alcohol was involved in over a third of all fatal crashes.
